Shigeru Miyamoto has just been awarded the Person of Cultural Merit award, which is delivered every year in Japan for people who have made outstanding cultural contributions (thanks, Wikipedia). “I’m thankful that light is being shined upon the genre of games,” he said in response to receiving the award. “This is a job where you can’t do anything by yourself,” Miyamoto added, sharing the merit for the award to all of his colleagues at Nintendo....

Earlier this month we got the surprising announcement from Shigeru Miyamoto during the Apple Event that Mario was headed for mobile devices with Super Mario Run, which is set to launch later this year. However, despite having the obvious goal of the game performing well, that isn’t the only intention that Nintendo has for it and other apps like it. SOCOM fans have been waiting quite some time for the spiritual successor to the classic tacticla military shooter. Finally some more gameplay for H-Hour: World’s Elite has been released and it looks pretty darn good. SOF Studios announced the new gameplay video via their Official Twitter page. Days after listings were spotted online, it was assumed that we’d be getting a Sonic Origins release date in the near future. As it turns out, that release was right around the corner. During the most recent Sony shareholder meeting, CEO Kazuo Hirai and other top executives were heckled by investors over the company’s many financial issues. The remaster for strategy roleplaying game Tactics Ogre may be one of the worst-kept gaming secrets of the year. It was included in the big Nvidia leak from last year, Square Enix trademarked it back in April, and, just over a week ago, details and screenshots were leaked by PS Deals. Now, Square Enix itself has acknowledged its existence with a formal announcement and a proper trailer. Just as the aforementioned leak claimed, Tactics Ogre: Reborn releases on November 11, and aside from PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, it will see a release on PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch....

Disney has released a small teaser video looking at some of the deleted scenes from Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. The deleted scenes will be included for the Blu-ray release of Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. The Blu-ray will be out in North America on April 5th, 2016. There will be six deleted scenes in total, but the teaser video shows a preview for two of them. The scenes look cool in their own right and it would be interesting to know why they were cut in the first place....

Last April saw the release of Nemesis, an expansion for Paradox Interactive‘s grand strategy game, Stellaris. Nemesis added a plethora of content to the Stellaris experience. Now, almost a year later, Paradox Interactive has announced another major expansion for the game. The Overlord expansion is coming to Stellaris later this year. The expansion is coming to PC, but today’s announcement did not mention whether it will also come to consoles....

Nintendo has made more Super Mario Bros. games than we care to count, and some despise the franchise for failing to evolve with other platformers. The problem is Nintendo hasn’t really needed to evolve the franchise, but according to a recent interview, the company is looking at integrating level customization in future titles in the franchise. New Super Mario Bros. U recently added a splash of customization in it’s Coin Battle mode, but the level of options in paltry in comparison to what other games in the genre are doing....
