The Overwatch 2 PvP beta is over. For players, that means waiting until the next beta to jump back into the game. For the team at Blizzard, it means kicking off a whole new phase of development: data collection and response. Sojourn, Ana, and Orisa were the most-used characters in the beta, which means Blizzard will be looking not only at why they were so popular but also at what can be done to even out the playing field....

Two big companies come together for a big venture. Seemingly out of nowhere, both Sony and Microsoft have just announced that they will be partnering up for a joint strategic project that will involve their own technology, sharing data, and online streaming tools. It’s important to note that in this announcement their is no mention of either the PlayStation of Xbox brand names. Regardless, this will more than likely lead into a focus on the entertainment aspects of gaming as both companies rely heavily on their products for sales....

A few hours ago, IGN posted a quick video and feature about Detroit: Become Human as part of its IGN First coverage where it discusses the tech behind the upcoming and much anticipated PS4 exclusive. In that feature, and in the description of the attached video on YouTube, the website mentioned that the game would be running at the native resolution of 4K on PlayStation 4 Pro, something that the developer had already apparently ruled out at GDC 2018....

It was a good run for Sony with the PlayStation 2, but it looks like the company is winding down support for the popular console. A report out of Japan says that Sony is discontinuing the production of the console, and new consoles will cease to be shipped in the country. Going forward it will be harder to find new PlayStation 2 consoles, but demand for the twelve year old system has likely seen a signficant drop-off in recent years....

Ever since the PlayStation 5’s design reveal, I have been wondering how gorgeous the console and the new DualSense controller will look in a black colour. Up until now, it seemed that the only way to get anywhere close to that was with a skin or replacement PS5 plates. Now, Sony is finally taking us one step closer to that vision with two new colours for the new PS5 controllers....

It has now been over a month and a half since the release of Driveclub on PlayStation 4, but the game is still nearly unplayable due to the abundance of server issues and coding problems at launch. Games being broken at release is a troublesome trend as of late, but Sony Computer Entertainment America’s president and CEO Shawn Layden weighed in on the topic and how the problems were about impossible to predict beforehand....

Released in early June, the indie Metroidvania title Souldiers, developed by Retro Forge Games, is available on all devices. Splatoon is Nintendo’s first foray into online team-based shooters, but unfortunately it will lack a crucial feature that fans of the genre usually expect. Online voice chat will not be available in the game, causing fans to have to forgo the best method of strategizing and communicating with their teammates. This was revealed in the latest issue of EDGE, which features an interview with Splatoon’s co-director Yusuke Amano. He explains a little bit of the reasoning behind the lack of what many feel is a very important feature....

John Boyega (Finn) admitted he literally cried the first time that he read the script for Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. Boyega spoke about his experience on the new Star Wars film during a new interview with GQ magazine. He admitted that he cried when he read the script. He says he’s usually “not really a big crier” so the script must have affected him deeply. Boyega said auditioning for the role of Finn in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens was not easy....

Starfinder is Paizo’s take on a sci-fi RPG and it’s even more fitting that three more episodes are playable through Alexa. The newest episodes for the interactive audio adventure released August 4 and is a great way to spend a few hours if you don’t have time to sit down and play with actual dice. The first three episodes based on the Dead Suns Adventure Path are available to play on any Alexa device....

Slow down, Valve. Steam Deck orders are just now shipping as of today, February 25, but the team is already thinking about the next one. That’s partially due to how many people have elected to buy the most expensive version of the device. Gabe Newell said as much in an interview with EDGE Magazine (via PC Gamer). Due to the popularity of the more expensive Steam Decks, the follow-up is expected to be even pricier....

Steam published the results for its July survey for hardware and software, and in it we get a very bold picture of how most gamers are doing their gaming on PC these days. Unsurprisingly, Windows 10 is the dominant OS of the bunch, with nearly 50% (44.93%) of all customers using Microsoft’s latest operating system. The rest of the top 3 is also rounded out by Microsoft’s most recent operating systems, with Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8....

Nintendo has announced a brand new update for Super Mario Party is available now, adding online play, allowing anyone to play a game together with up to three others. Nibel initially picked up the news on Twitter, who posted an image with Japanese text explaining that the online update would add 70 minigames and an online 2 vs 2 mode. Shortly after, Nintendo chimed in with its official announcement. Multiplayer functionality allows four individual players across four consoles to play together online....

Sony will be handing this exclusive title to the PC crowd. It looks like Sackboy: A Big Adventure will be coming to PC. According to a recent discovery, one of the most recognizable titles from the PlayStation ecosystem is coming to the Windows platform, joining many titles that, in recent years, have done the same. On September 29, the PlayStation Youtube channel published a hidden video where it made the announcement....

Square Enix is continuing to remaster their classic games, with the newest re-release to come from the studio being SaGa Frontier. Square Enix announced that this remake of the original game, released on the PlayStation in 1997, will bring updated graphics, events, cutscenes, and enhancements to the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, iOS, and Android. SaGa Frontier is a sci-fi turn-based RPG that relishes in its “Free Scenario System.” This concept means that players are free to go anywhere and do “almost” anything from the beginning of the game, choosing from the seven available protagonists, each with their own questline and abilities....

Sega Europe will no longer use plastic packaging on its PC titles and is replacing it with recycled and recyclable cardboard. First reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Sega Europe is replacing its plastic packaging with recycled cardboard cases for all PC games. The cases are more expensive to produce but are made from fully recycled materials. The cases themselves are fully recyclable as well to help cut back on waste produced by packaging materials....

The game includes more customization options than you would probably expect. Today (March 16), Sega held a panel at SXSW in which they discussed their upcoming Sonic racing game Team Sonic Racing. During their panel, they revealed the game’s car customization features, as well as a new animated series based off of the game. A new trailer for Team Sonic Racing shows that players will be able to customize their cars in the game to a surprising degree that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from a Sonic racing game....
