Although a reminder that video games are more popular than ever really isn’t needed, Valve’s Steam storefront has gone and broken its all-time concurrent user record yet again. A peak of 26,401,443 logged into Steam simultaneously at roughly 2 pm GMT/6 am PST today. Steam data aggregator Steam Database shared the news in a tweet authored earlier, noting that this surge past the 26 million mark shatters the 25.4 million record set roughly a month ago....

Has more recently been tied up with rights issues. Sonic the Hedgehog is celebrating his 30th anniversary this year, so Sega wanted to honor the Blue Blur with some new games and more. There are some little crossovers like Sonic The Fighters being included as an arcade game in the upcoming Lost Judgment, but they also had some other announcements. This week sees the release of one of the most anticipated video game adaptations for some time in Sonic the Hedgehog, and today saw the review embargo for the film drop. So far, the results have been mixed, but by no means terrible. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which will give them control of the Call of Duty franchise, is still ongoing. Although Microsoft has stated its intention to add Call of Duty to the Xbox Game Pass, Activision’s agreement with Sony prevents it from occurring for “a number of years.” Call of Duty May Not Be Added to Game Pass for “Many Years” Earlier this year, Microsoft claimed Sony stopped some developers from releasing their games on Xbox Game Pass....

Over the past few days, quite a good number of things have been happening to Remedy. The studio has obtained publishing rights for Alan Wake and is open to the idea of bringing the original game onto other platforms outside of Xbox and Windows, on top of chances of a next-gen sequel. Now, with the team working on Control and the story mode for CrossFire X in partnership with Korean outlet Smilegate, there are rumors around possibilities of an acquisition by Sony, which would be interested in bringing Remedy in the portfolio of its first party studios....

Sony may have recently had one of the roughest years imaginable for any company. A downtrodden global economy has forced the electronics and entertainment conglomerate to cut 10,000 jobs, while the company is expecting losses in multi-billions. The company also saw a changing of the guard. Former PlayStation head, Kaz Hirai is now the CEO of the company, and is focused on changing the way Sony does business. “I’ve fully dedicated myself to changing Sony,” said Hirai....
