Electronic Arts and Maxis have just announced that SimCity will be returning in 2013. The news was announced during Game Changers at the GDC symposium, and is in development by Maxis Emeryville. “We’d like to thank the millions of fans who have helped make SimCity synonymous with the city-building genre. This is a franchise that means the world to us at Maxis and we’re happy to be bringing it back home where we are reimagining it for an entirely new generation of players,” said Lucy Bradshaw, Senior Vice President of EA’s Maxis Label....

One night in November 2003, a demo for Sonic Heroes caught my eye as I made my way through the video game department of Walmart. I had only been a Sonic the Hedgehog fan for a couple of weeks, thanks to my then 8-year-old cousin Nicholas reintroducing me to Sonic Adventure 2: Battle on the Nintendo GameCube nearly 18 months after playing that demo at Circuit City. What drew me to Sonic Heroes was not only how handsome my nearly 10-year-old brain believed Sonic was compared to Justin Timberlake, but most importantly the teamwork gameplay mechanic not employed in the previous game....

Some of the best games available on PlayStation 4 are getting a price drop and a special label called PlayStation Hits, Sony revealed today. The first selection of PlayStation Hits include some of the very best the system has had to offer, including Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, The Last of Us Remastered, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Street Fighter V, Doom, Battlefield 4, and a few more. Sony has laid off chunks of staff in their European offices, directors visited Sony’s London office earlier this week to deliver the news. But what has caused a real issue is that Sony Interactive Entertainment America (SIEA) chose to make the announcement the same day as the PlayStation 5 announcement. To cause added friction, it seems that many of Sony’s European offices were unaware of the intention to run the PlayStation 5 announcement....

In an interview with CNET, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has discussed plans for the next generation games in the making at Sony, and of course, tailored for the incoming PS5. Good enough, the platform owner and publisher doesn’t even think about leaving the story-based genre that many appreciated from the current generation. “We’ve never had greater success with our own narrative-driven, story-based games than we’re having right now. We feel good about that, and it’s certainly not a genre of gaming we’ll ever walk away from,” Ryan said, reassuring things that the core business of the console won’t be any different next gen....

The first bout of episodic content for the Spartan Ops gamemode of Halo 4 has arrived on Xbox Live this morning. This second episode, titled Artifact, will feature five new missions that further the storyline of the UNSC Infinity. This is the second episode of a planned ten weeks of additional cooperative content for Halo 4. The Halo 4 update also brings the SWAT game mode from Halo: Reach. Very similar to how it played in the last Halo game, SWAT narrows player options and focuses solely on getting headshots with either the Battle Rifle or DMR and getting one shot kills....

Spider-Man 2 has been in development for some time now, with many fans eagerly awaiting the game’s release. However, Insomniac Games has been quite silent about the game’s development since its original announcement last year. The developers have said that this isn’t because they’re not making progress on the game – quite the opposite, in fact – but instead because they want to ensure that Spider-Man 2 meets everyone’s expectations. Ubisoft chief creative officer Serge Hascoet has recently released an interesting interview in which he disclosed the future of some of the most beloved Ubisoft intellectual properties, including Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, and Assassin’s Creed. When asked about the possibility of the comeback of several of Ubi’s ‘dormant’ IPs, Hascoet immediately mentioned Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia, claiming he loves them both and would love to witness their return....

While the Rise of Mana will be getting its unfortunate cancellation next month, Square Enix has just revealed that Adventures of Mana will be making its way to both iOS and Android on February 4. A PlayStation Vita version will also be coming, but so far only in Japan. Adventures of Mana is a remake of the Game Boy RPG Final Fantasy Adventure, which is actually where the Mana series all began when it launched in 1991....

Respawn Entertainment’s debut Stars Wars game, Jedi: Fallen Order has been presented at EA’s E3 event EA Play, showcasing the gameplay that fans can expect to see on release. The 15 minutes of gameplay showed about three hours into the game set on Kashyyyk, starting as a padawan. The gameplay showed some 3rd person platforming, including wall-running that was similar to their Titanfall games, and several uses for force powers, including time bending and door smashing....

It has been a long time coming, but starting today in the US, and from tomorrow in the EU, people will be able to change their PSN ID. Sony confirmed the feature would finally be available in a blog post on the official PlayStation website. There is a surprising amount of information you should be aware of before availing of the feature. First up, Sony recommends that you look at their list of tested games before deciding to make the change, as some games have been found to have issues with the name change....

Game Discs Collectors, Rejoice! Today developer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, GSC Game World, announced their new partnership with Koch Media and their plans to release S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 with physical discs on the same day as the digital release on April 28th, 2022. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl was announced at Xbox’s E3 conference of this year, and is an FPS game set in a fictional timeline and takes place in Chernobyl, Ukraine....

It’s a sad day for the Nickelodeon family. TMZ reports that actor Kirk Baily is dead at the age of 59. The actor was best known for his role of Kevin Ug Lee on Nickelodeon’s Salute Your Shorts, a live-action comedy series based on the summer adventures of a group of kids at fictional Camp Anawanna. According to TMZ, Kirk Baily’s died from lung cancer on February 28th, just 6 months after being diagnosed....
