Sony Computer Entertainment has just completed a deal to purchase Sucker Punch, the development studio responsible for inFamous, inFamous 2, and the Sly Cooper games. Adding to their long list of studios, Sony Computer Entertainment now owns 16 of them in all. Scott Rhode spoke on the deal on Monday. “Worldwide Studios puts a really high value on groups like Sucker Punch that can successfully develop new intellectual property,” Scott Rohde, senior vice president at Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios America, told MSNBC during an interview Monday....

Nintendo isn’t the only company doing the miniature console thing. Sony announced that it’s launching PlayStation Classic, a miniature version of the original PlayStation console that comes preloaded with 20 games. Limited quantities will launch on Dec. 3 in Japan, North America, and Europe for $100. The PlayStation Classic is 45 percent smaller than the original, according to Sony. It’s got similar controls and packaging, but adds HDMI and USB cables to allow players to connect the console to different setups....

Developer Thunder Lotus Games announced today that its ‘cozy management game about dying,’ Spiritfarer, reached a milestone of 500,000 copies sold worldwide since launching to critical acclaim last summer, making the game the studio’s most successful effort to date. Valve has announced today that it is expanding its offerings past games and other technologies, to software titles that will expand the Steam platform. Valve says that these software titles that will arrive on Steam will range from creativity to productivity uses.
