Sony’s quarterly earnings report for the second quarter of 2021 has gone public. There is a lot of data to go through but one of the most interesting bits is that, at the time of this writing, the PS5 has officially sold 13.4 million consoles worldwide since its release in November 2020, including 3.3 million units in Q2. This is in addition to finally breaking the Switch’s console sales streak in September 2021....

Dbrand, the popular maker of cases, skins, and, now formerly, PS5 darkplates has been ordered by Sony to cease selling the PS5 customization faceplates. The order comes in the form of a cease and desist letter from Sony. Dbrand announced on the Dbrand subreddit along with excerpts from their communication with Sony and their arguments against Sony’s decision. Sony claims that Dbrand is infringing on its intellectual property by selling the darkplates....
Sony has announced a dramatic price drop for its PlayStation Now game subscription service. For North American users, the monthly price will be slashed to half the old cost going from $19.99 to $9.99 with comparable savings at the quarterly and annual tiers.
