After five seasons of waiting, Sabrina Spellman is finally coming to Riverdale. Kiernan Shipka’s Instagram revealed this recent news. Sabrina Spellman met her tragic end after the fourth season The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Kiernan Shipka’s post showed her as Sabrina Spellman sitting on set in a Riverdale cast chair. Shipka dressed accordingly, including Sabrina’s iconic headband.
Riverdale’s originally planned for Sabrina’s arrival in the season one finale. Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa admitted at the time that there was too much going on to justify this arrival. Instead, Netflix greenlit the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and cast Mad Men alumnus Kiernan Shipka. Shipka had shown her worth before the casting in the indie horror movie The Blackcoat’s Daughter.
Now Riverdale has opened the door to the supernatural. The current season increased the supernatural element. Cheryl claimed to be a prophet after starting a church with her mother. Now the supernatural is at the forefront. In the season five finale, the audience learned that Cheryl’s ancestor Abigail Blossom was burned for being a witch. As she burned, she cursed the town of Riverdale.
With news of a Sabrina appearance, the door to the supernatural is flung wide open.
Where Chilling Adventures Left Off
Netflix prematurely canceled Chilling Adventures of Sabrina after season four, devastating fans. Netflix canceled the show, citing a lack of viewership. This brings up questions about how Sabrina will make her appearance on Riverdale. At the end of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Sabrina was in dire straits. In an attempt to rid the world of the Eldritch Terrors, Sabrina let the Void consume her. The only way she could save the world was to sacrifice herself.
This was a depressing end to an outrageous and entertaining show. The last scene was Sabrina in heaven with her on-again-off-again boyfriend Nick who had followed her into the afterlife. As this is Riverdale, there is no telling what storytelling will happen to allow for Sabrina to return to the land of the living. Viewers will have to wait until November 16 to find out.
