Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is here to provide you a smooth side-scrolling action game along with a deep rice cultivating simulator on the side.

Sakuna launched on November 10 for Nintendo Switch and PS4 systems’ in North America and globally on Windows PC via Steam by XSEED Games. This game is inspired by traditional Japanese history and culture but features many of its own unique twists.

This whimsical Japanese adventure game will have you playing as the spoiled harvest goddess, Sakuna. She finds herself banished from her lush celestial home to an island overrun with demons. In this dangerous and unfamiliar environment  she must rediscover her birthright as the daughter of a warrior god and harvest goddess. Sakuna will be defending the island from demons, weathering the elements, and cultivating rice. She will not be alone however, as a group of outcast humans are stuck on the island as well. The unlikely companions will need to join hands to tame both the soil and the demons of Hinoe Island.

Sakuna’s Gameplay

This game has various types of gameplay when looking at the work as a whole. You will find yourself clearing out areas of monsters and demons through epic side-scroller combat. However, Sakuna will then return to her island where the group of banished humans and spirits are based. Here is where the game turns into a life sim; revolving around the process of growing/harvesting rice. You will engage in your relationships with the humans, work on the harvest, and participate in seasonally influenced activities (mostly protecting the rice harvests).
