Demián Bichir and Salma Hayek joined Without Blood, an upcoming Angelina Jolie movie. It will be Jolie’s first directed film since 2017’s First They Killed My Father. This new project is a part of a three-year deal with Fremantle producing and distributing with producing companies Jolie Productions, Fremantle-backed The Apartment Pictures, and De Maio Entertainment.

Principal photography started in Southern Italy and Rome earlier this month. The film will be based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Alessandro Baricco. It is about a fable after a conflict inside a farmhouse in the Italian countryside.

The directorial debut of the Academy Award winner was the documentary A Place in Time. Following it, she has helmed In the Land of Blood and Honey, Unbroken, By the Sea, and First They Killed My Father.

Beyond Without Blood for Demián Bichir and Salma Hayek

Without Blood is not the first time Salma Hayek has worked with the director. Last year, the two starred in Eternals by Academy Award-winning director Chloe Zhao. Hayek is also working on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

Co-star Demián Bichir is making his directorial debut with A Circus Story & A Love Song, which he will also star in and write. He is also attached to starring in Chupa, Thanksgiving, and JSA.

While the director has an Oscar in her possession, the two stars have had nominations. Bichir was nominated for A Better Life and Hayek for Frida.
