Avatar star Sam Worthington has announced that he will be joining comedian and actor Kevin Hart in Hart’s new heist thriller, entitled Lift. Sam Worthington, best known for his role as Jake Sully in Avatar by James Cameron, will be reprising his role in the upcoming sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, which will premiere in December 2022. Along with Worthington, Burn Gorman, Jean Reno, and Spider-Man: No Way Home star Jacob Batalon are also stated to join the cast of Lift, which will be directed by F. Gary Gray.

Lift will feature Kevin Hart as a master thief who gets pulled into a massive heist by his ex-girlfriend (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who is also a thief, and the FBI. Hart and his gang of international thieves – likely including Worthington, Reno, and Batalon – are tasked with orchestrating an impossible heist in mid-air while onboard a 777 flying from London to Zurich.

What we know about Kevin Hart, Sam Worthington, and “Lift”

With the film still in the early stages of development at Netflix, roles for the new cast members – including Worthington and the other new additions – have not been released. What we do know, however, is that Netflix quickly snatched up Lift after the project was announced last year. This falls under the deal the streaming service signed with Kevin Hart’s production studio, HartBeat, in January 2021, which according to Deadline, states that Hart must star in four of his own films.

Gary Gray (Friday) is set to direct and produce Lift, along with Brent O’Connor (Venom: Let There Be Carnage) and Patricia Braga (Me Time). Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon will produce for Genre Pictures (Deadpool 2), while Matt Reeves and Adam Kassan represent 6th & Idaho (The Batman), and Kevin Hart and Brian Smiley represent HartBeat Studios.

A release date for Lift has not been announced yet.
