Despite Nintendo recently coming out and slashing their forecasts for the troubled Wii U console, company head Satoru Iwata says that he will not be resigning from Nintendo.
There will be a “major management shake-up” at the company, and Nintendo could be eyeing a completely new business model, according to Iwata. Investors and analysts are calling for heads to roll, and Nintendo has admitted that there is a problem.
“It’s not as simple as enabling Mario to move on a smartphone,” said the CEO.
But is firing Iwata the right move for Nintendo? Industry vetrans have chimed in on the possiblity. David Jaffe, creator of popular game franchises like Sony’s Twisted Metal and God of War, believes that failures like this allow for people and business to learn from their mistakes.
“Calling for Iwata to step down miss sight of what makes Nintendo great. You’d never get the Wii type successes if you don’t allow a guy like Iwata to fail hard as well,” said Jaffe.
Like Reggie Fils-Aime, Iwata is a beloved personality of the Nintendo brand. While he might not be popular with investors at the moment, fans enjoy his Nintendo Direct presentations and close contact about Nintendo’s pipeline of products.
