Save The Green Planet! a Korean cult hit is being remade in English. Studio of Oscar-winning Korean film Parasite, CJ is teaming up with the duo of Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen (Midsommar, Hereditary).

The genre-bending Save The Green Planet! is an off-beat, black comedy-sci-fi mashup from 2003 about a man who believes the world is on the verge of an alien invasion and sets out to save the planet by first kidnapping his boss.

The original film is a classic -that played Cannes, Toronto, Hong Kong, and Jeonju festivals, among others; which follows Byun-gu, a bitter, paranoid and amphetamine-popping beekeeper who believes that powerful and successful businessman Man-sik is one of many aliens from the planet Andromeda hiding amongst humans and plotting to destroy the Earth in a few days. The plot, which begins as bizarre and eccentric thickens with the reveal of a more personal motivation.

The Korean film’s writer-director Joon-hwan Jang returns to direct the remake, while CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Miky Lee, CJ Entertainment’s Young-ki Cho, and Jerry Ko act as executive producers, with Aster and Knudsen producing.

This is CJ and Jang’s second collaboration in recent times, previously having worked on 2017 political thriller 1987: When The Day Comes.  Will Tracy, who is the writer of HBO’s Succession and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver has been touted as the writer of the adapted screenplay.

About the upcoming production, CJ’s Miky Lee said:

This remake adds to CJ’s growing collection of English originals and remakes of Korean hits which includes collaborations with the likes of Kevin Hart and Universal.
