Scarlett Johansson has reflected on her life when she was groomed for “bombshell” roles at the start of her career in Hollywood. The 38-year-old actress was expected to play the “object of desire” in movies.

What Was Johansson’s Career Like In Her Teens?

In an interview with Bruce Bozzi on the iHeartRadio’s Table for Two podcasts on Tuesday, the actress revealed that she became an “ingenue.” Johansson appeared in movies like The Horse Whisperer and some others where she played the role of a naive young girl.

The Black Widow star explained that it is a fact that “Young girls” are “really objectified.” Johansson continued by explaining that whatever roles these women are placed into became a “box” that sets a person into a “trajectory” for how their lives will go. Now, women are more able to choose the path they want to take in their careers but, it was not so easy when Johansson was In her teens.

When Johansson grew older and was in her late teens, she was entering into her “own womanhood” and learning her “desirability and sexuality.” Because of the way Scarlett Johansson had been groomed to be a “bombshell” actor, she “got stuck in this.”

The Black Dahlia star explained that earlier in her career she was “playing the other woman and this object of desire.” This role made Johansson feel “cornered in this place, like, I couldn’t get out of it.” The actress later realized that the “bombshell” acting she had been groomed into “burns bright and quick.” She added that “then it’s done and you don’t have opportunity beyond that.”
