The next installment in the Scream series continues to gain traction through exciting casting announcements. Neve Campbell, who played the main protagonist Sidney Prescott in the past four installments, has just joined the project. She joins series mainstays David Arquette and Courtney Cox, who signed on earlier this year. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo behind 2019’s Ready or Not and 2/3 of Radio Silence Productions, will direct. Guy Busick (Ready or Not) and James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) will write. Original series writer Kevin Williamson will executive produce alongside Radio Silence’s Chad Villella.
Campbell expressed her joy to return after experiencing the love and respect the filmmakers are showing the late Wes Craven’s slasher franchise. In addition to the casting announcement, the production studio issued the following statement:

While it is definitely fantastic to see Campbell return, the casting news doesn’t stop there. Mere hours after that announcement, Deadline reported several newcomers to the Scream series. Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), Mason Gooding (Booksmart), and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood) are joining in undisclosed roles.
Returning cast members also include Kyle Gallner and Marley Shelton, who are each reprising their roles from Scream 4. Other newcomers include Jack Quaid (The Boys), Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Melissa Barrera (In The Heights), and Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers).
The production of the next Scream will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina. However, COVID-19 caused a delay in production. This led the release date to be pushed back from its 2021 window to January 14th, 2022.
