Scream 5 is on track for its January 2022 release date. The upcoming film officially wrapped filming after a three-month production in spite of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Scream 5 is titled Scream like the original and will see the return of Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott in all four of the previous films alongside returning cast members David Arquette and Courteney Cox, as well as newcomers to the franchise such as Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison, and Sonia Ben Ammar.

With an impressively short and fast production period in Wilmington, North Carolina, in spite of the pandemic which slowed down most film and TV productions, Scream also faced coronavirus-imposed delays after three crewmembers tested positive shortly after production began in September. However, the filming schedule remained unaffected and the film seems set to hit theatres on January 14, 2022.

Original Scream writer Kevin Williamson revealed that the film had wrapped production, following his recent praise for James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick‘s “fresh and familiar” script. He tweeted the following:

Marking the first-ever Scream movie without Wes Craven at its helm, as directing team Radio Silence which includes Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – the duo responsible for the 2019 horror-comedy film Ready or Not – takes charge of the upcoming project. Plot points of the film are yet-to-be-revealed. In his tweet announcing the production wrap Williamson added the following:
