The role-playing adventure game Sea of Stars has been announced for release on PlayStation platforms, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2023. The game comes out of the same studio that brought us The Messenger, and hopes are high with this upcoming installment.

The news surrounding the release of Sea of Stars on PlayStation also comes with a fresh trailer that offers players great insight into the combat system of this role-playing adventure game. You can watch the new trailer below.

What is Sea of Stars About?

Sea of Stars is a very retro-looking game; reminiscent of classic games like the Chrono series. They both include a gorgeous, pixelated aesthetic that submerges you in a sea of nostalgia and a similar turn-based combat system. Players will need to master this mechanic because this world is full of random encounters that attempt to catch you when you least expect it.

Something to make note of is how Sea of Stars uses a similar in-game mechanic to the Super Mario RPGs. Players must time their hits exactly with the animations for extra damage and to utilize their own defenses. The enemies in this role-playing adventure game will have elemental locks on their health bars which need to be broken by using the damage of a particular type – this really isn’t as simple as it looks, you know, there’s a lot more to it than first meets the eye.

Something else that makes Sea of Stars very similar to the Chrono series is the need for players to combine character abilities with one another. The way to do this is by swapping out party members when the exact time calls for it. This will offer boosts to attacks and allow for increased damage infliction.

Sea of Stars was originally aiming for a release this year. Still, after a delay (they are becoming such a common occurrence these days), the decision to delay the game until next year was a sensible one by all accounts.
