The latest content drop for Sea of Thieves arrived in port yesterday, bringing a whole swathe of clue hunting with it. This time around, there are several notes, objects, etc. referring to legendary exploits carried out by the community dotted around the Sea of Thieves map. Various members of the player base are being rewarded by having their names and deeds immortalized in the game, with these objects being used as a new currency for cosmetics (tattoos, titles, even doubloons!). These new points of interest will apparently be marked on your map after speaking to Umbra, the ‘skillful scribe who escaped the clutches of Captain Bronzebeard.’

Other than the legendary exploit hunt, Rare is dropping a bunch of new Bilge Rat cosmetics, and even a new kind of Bounty Chest; stealing one of these gold plated Reaper Chests rewards you and your crew with a massive 25,000 Gold Doubloons. They have a golden hue and are on your map like any other Reaper Chest. The only catch with these? They have to be taken to a specific port, meaning a much higher risk of someone waiting there to set fire to you and yours and taking the chest as their own. Worth it, right?

Lastly, Rare has announced that Sea of Thieves has surpassed 10 million unique players, which is no mean feat, and are celebrating as such by giving anybody who logs in before Jan 22nd a new emote and some pretty nifty sails for their pretty nifty ship.

It’s been nice to see the community being celebrated as it is during this update, with a pretty rocky start (forgive the pun) it was only with the perseverance of the hardcore players that SoT has been able to keep going and finally round out the player experience to something that is generally considered a blast to play (again, forgive me).
