Sean Kanan of The Karate Kid |Part III is reprising his role as Mike Barnes in Cobra Kai season five. Vulture reports that the details of Kanan’s reprisal as Burnes are being kept under wraps until the season premiere on September 9. Cobra Kai season five will also see Randee Heller and Yuji Okumoto reprise their roles as Lucille LaRusso (mother to Ralph Macchio’s Daniel) and Chozen Toguchi (the antagonist of The Karate Kid Part II). Kanan’s Barnes was the main antagonist of The Karate Kid Part III, the film in which his poor sportsmanship got him banned from the All Valley tournament. Barnes has been mentioned in the season one episode “All Valley.”

The Karate Kid Part III, while not so popular among critics, was Sean Kanan’s big break. The 55-year-old actor, who told Illuminate Magazine that he had been studying martial arts since he was 14, became a major star in various soap operas. The actor has frequently portrayed the role of Deacon Sharpe on The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. He is also well-known for his work in General Hospital as the alcoholic and troubled A.J. Quartermaine, brother to Steve Burton’s Jason Quartermaine/Morgan.

More Karate Kid Stars Returning for Cobra Kai Season 5?

Cobra Kai has been a significant treat for Karate Kid franchise fans who have seen legendary characters and where they are at. Kanan may not be the only franchise member making a comeback in Cobra Kai. Two-time Oscar winner, Hilary Swank’s breakout role, was as Julie Pierce in 1994’s The Next Karate Kid, and there have been rumors that she may appear in the Cobra Kai series. However, nothing has been confirmed or denied.
