There will never be enough dinosaur games. And luckily, the upcoming online cooperative “dino shooter” Second Extinction will soon be released on Steam Early Access on October 13, 2020, priced at $24.99. Developed by Systemic Reaction, you and two other players will have to survive together in fast-paced, intense battles to reclaim a dangerous frozen Earth from mutant dinosaurs.

Second Extinction‘s Early Access launch will include four “Hero” characters, 10 Weapons with five upgrade tiers, and six missions across seven different maps. And later down the line, they promised to add loadout modifiers to give party-wide buffs for each mission, armor augments, more game modes including a survival/horde mode, additional dinosaur’s mutations, and “much more”.

The Second Extinction Early Access reveal is accompanied by a trailer featuring a time-lapse cover art drawing by Tom duBois, the legendary retro cover artist who used to work on classic Konami titles such as NES-SNES era Castlevania and Contra.

Regarding his contribution to the game artwork, Tom said that Second Extinction‘s “badass concepts” got the creative juices flowing in his head. And it was no easy feat to capture the fierce image of the 3D-mutated dinosaurs into a flat painting:

The time-lapse trailer also features an in-game track from Cody Carpenter, son of the film director John Carpenter. Titled Prehistoric Menace, it uses his unique synth and drum style to capture the intensity and brutality of a desolate land conquered by disfigured dinosaurs in Second Extinction.

If you do need some other, “proper” convincing though, you can also watch the gameplay trailer below. This trailer shows off a bit of ‘War Effort’ global meta-game system. By slaying dinosaurs, and completing missions in Second Extinction, all in-game players’ actions will determine what kind of enemies, challenges, and rewards you will have to face in different regions around the world.
