Star Trek: Section 31 is becoming a reality. Star Trek TV boss Alex Kurtzman revealed on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast that the spinoff series would start filming soon.

Star Trek rumors are swirling all around us these days. First came word that Quentin Tarantino’s idea for a new feature has a script and is awaiting review. Next came rumors that Alex Kurtzman was losing his crown. Furthermore, the new Picard series has been supposedly testing quite poorly.

All this aside, it seems that CBS is likely to go full steam ahead on Section 31, a spinoff series to Discovery. The new show will feature Michelle Yeoh’s Captain Philippa Georgiou and the secretive Starfleet group.

In the Deadline podcast, Kurtzman had this to say:

Section 31 is a highly secretive group within Starfleet. Their mission is to protect the Federation at any cost, but their methods are often times immoral and unethical. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine brought the group to the forefront of their narrative, as did Star Trek Into Darkness.

It’s hard to sift through all the rumors within the Trek universe at the moment. As always, everything should be taken with a grain of salt. Fans should be happy that CBS is not abandoning Star Trek for the foreseeable future.
