Several classic Sega games are heading to the Nintendo Switch under the Sega Ages label, and a new article from Forbes hints that Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn games may receive their own ports, too.
The news comes from Japanese gaming website GAME Watch, who reported on a talk from Sega Ages’ producer, Kagasei Shimomura. Shinmomura explained that he wanted to expand Sega Ages beyond classic ’80s and early ’90s games and into Saturn and Dreamcast titles if Sega Ages’ 15 initial games experience a solid launch, according to a translation provided by Reset Era moderator Jonneh. The expansion would also include more Sega arcade games, too.
After publishing a report on Shimomura’s comments Forbes received a response from Sega, stressing that Sega Ages plans to feature games from arcade systems to home consoles.
“Sega Ages aims to bring prominent titles from Sega’s legacy catalog to fans around the world,” Sega told Forbes in an official statement. “From a selection of home console classics, to a multitude of perfectly-emulated arcade games, Sega Ages gives fans the ability to build their own retro Sega collection unlike any other.”
It’s unclear what Saturn and Dreamcast titles would land on the Nintendo Switch if Sega expands the Sega Ages program, but there are a couple hints based on Sega’s port catalog. For instance, Sega previously brought Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5: Part 2, Nights into Dreams, and several other games to Steam as part of the “Dreamcast Collection,” even though Nights into Dreams originally launched on the Saturn.
It seems likely these games could appear on the Switch, too—but nothing is official until Sega announces new additions to Sega Ages.
