Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi Reboots and SEGA’s Super Game Initiative Details

According to the Bloomberg report, the Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboot will be the first two entries in Sega’s “Super Game” initiative, which the company announced a little over a year ago to develop recurring revenue sources and build online communities. It is unclear how the Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio reboots will fit into this initiative, though the Bloomberg report states that Sega is looking at the Fortnite business model for both titles. Sega has also claimed that the “Super Game” project may experiment with NFTs as well.

Crazy Taxi is reportedly a year into development, with its release still a few years away, and there are two further, unnamed games also on the horizon, one of them reportedly an FPS.

Jet Set Radio was first released on the SEGA Dreamcast, then remade for the Xbox, and subsequently re-released on several modern hardware. It featured a synthesis of music, graffiti, and skating, and fans have anticipated some continuation for years.

Crazy Taxi, meanwhile, started in the arcade before becoming one of Sega’s biggest games on the Dreamcast. Unlike Jet Set Radio’s overall lack of attention over the last 20 years, however, Crazy Taxi has received many sequels and spin-offs over the years, such as Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars. This upcoming reboot could be the start of a new generation of players for the franchise and a fresh take on the original.
