A new Sangokushi Taisen-based blockchain game is now being developed by the Japanese blockchain company Double Jump Tokyo with Sega. The game will probably be the first Sega title to utilize blockchain technology once it is finished. No platform or release date has been officially announced.

Sega Announces Sangokushi Taisen-Based Blockchain Game

The real-time strategy game Sangokushi Taisen is mainly played in Japanese arcades and involves players collecting actual cards. The Sangokushi Taisen-based new will use blockchain technology. However, it has yet to be obvious how this would function.

The “Oasys” blockchain project from Double Jump Tokyo will be used in the game. The Oasys architecture, which was first introduced in February 2022, is supposedly designed to allow blockchain gaming. According to the official Oasys website, the architecture is said to be “eco-friendly” and facilitate the trading of NFTs.

According to the developer, the new blockchain game would have visuals created utilizing Sangokushi Taisen. The official press release does not indicate the intended systems or features. It only shows that the game would draw from the themes and universe of Sangokushi Taisen.

In 2005, the hybrid collectible card game Sangokushi Taisen was developed for arcades. Although none of them has been officially released outside of Japan, Sega has also released games on the Nintendo DS and smartphones since the start of the series.

When some well-known brands, including Nike and McDonald’s, announced their efforts last year, blockchain received much more attention. Konami and Atari are the only gaming companies that have begun selling digital goods as NFTs. However, this has drawn criticism from some owing to the format’s enormous carbon footprint and what some view as cynical implementation.

The Japanese company registered a trademark for “Sega NFT” in January. However, CEO Haruki Satomi has acknowledged the present unfavorable NFT landscape.
