Sega is always trying to release newer experiences that build on its legacy of video games. As seen in their upcoming release of the Sonic Origins collection, nostalgia is a big driver of the company’s revenue. Yet, while the company is pushing out new experiences, often there is a big incentive to rely upon their classic games. Once before, when the trend toward novelty mini consoles was big, Sega released a Genesis Mini. In Japan, the console was released as the Mega Drive Mini due to the regional variant differences. This first iteration came with 40 games in the original style of the SEGA Genesis. Now, it seems that the company is ready to produce its next line of Mega Drive consoles. The original console featured add-ons to extend its lifespan. Announced in a new video is the upcoming SEGA Mega Drive Mini 2 featuring original Sega CD games.

When Does The Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 Release?

Reintroducing a nostalgic product featuring even more content than before is a great idea. The original Genesis mini was able to play other Genesis games with some mod capabilities, but the new system should be much more powerful than before. Currently, the Mega Drive Mini 2 plays many Sega CD games, including Thunder Force IV and Sonic CD. As the original included 40 titles, fans can rest assured that the 11 video games shown will not be the last. Even more games will be shown on June 24th. This new iteration of the classic Sega game console is sure to excite and surprise, with over 50 games releasing on October 27th in Japan.
