SEGA and Sonic Team have just released the first official Sonic Frontiers teaser trailer, providing a glimpse into the gameplay and features of the upcoming nest installment in the popular Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The trailer was released exclusively as part of IGN’s IGN First news coverage, which will provide more information about the game tomorrow. SEGA confirmed in a Tweet that that coverage will continue throughout all of June.
Sonic Frontiers Teaser Trailer, Release Date, and Gameplay
The footage for the new Sonic Frontiers teaser trailer was first posted by SEGA earlier this morning via Twitter and showed off a video of Sonic the Hedgehog running across a lush, open world, engaging in high-speed combat, and what appeared to be a boss battle against a giant robot.
The official description for the game released by SEGA reads as follows:
Sonic Frontiers was first teased last summer, but was not officially revealed until December of last year, with SEGA promising “a huge leap forward for the franchise, delivering an evolved gameplay experience that can be enjoyed by longtime Sonic fans and action-adventure enthusiasts alike.” Since then, the game has been one of the most anticipated games of this year, and this new trailer has provided our first taste of what the Sonic Frontiers gameplay will look like.
Sonic Frontiers was originally scheduled to launch last year to celebrate Sonic’s 30th birthday but is now confirmed to be via the teaser to be set for Holiday 2022. This released window was previously confirmed by SEGA of America social media manager Katie Chrzanowski, who stated at the time that more news for Sonic Frontiers would be coming in the future.
IGN’s coverage of Sonic Frontiers will kick off tomorrow during the IGN First presentation, which will begin at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM in the UK / 6 PM in Europe.
Sonic Frontiers is set to in holiday 2022 across Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
