Sega is ramping up the production for something entirely brand new next year. After a few rocky missteps with their last 3D Sonic title, the latest foray seems to be making the right steps. Sega has been doing well recently to re-release its past successful titles like Sonic Colors. Yet there’s still much to be learned from the 3D Sonic games of the past. As Sonic Mania had brought SEGA back to its 2D roots, Sonic is ready to jump into something entirely new. Very little of the title was shown last time fans saw this announced earlier this year. Possibly due to it being very early in development, this new look answers many contested questions about the project. After premiering the first trailer of the second Sonic movie, Sega finally unveiled a trailer for Sonic Frontiers, a new open-world 3D Sonic game.

What Did Sega’s Sonic Frontiers Open World Trailer Reveal?

The trailer opens with Sonic running from something obscured by a storm. As Sonic runs through the forest, he’s transported into a brand new world. Showcasing the vast landscaped and mysterious structures ahead, Sonic takes off. Observing the surroundings on the island, many of the structures are preserved amidst the wilderness. Near the end of the trailer, Sonic is approached by a monolithic being right before the end. More than likely, these giants will house the main threats facing this new world Sonic must endure. It’s not entirely clear how these encounters will play out, but it’s possible Sonic faces larger threats than ever before. While much is yet to be revealed, Sega did give a prospective release window on the title. Be sure to check back for more as Sonic Frontiers nears its release date next year.
