The Seinfeld TV show will now be a staple of Comedy Central according to Comicbook. Jerry Seinfeld himself released a new promotional video to celebrate the news. Fans were able to vote on which episodes were their favorites and on October 9, when the show premiers on Comedy Central, those winning episodes will lead the premier.

Initially, Viacom, the conglomerate that owns the Seinfeld library, wanted to spread the show through its numerous other content providers (Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and TV Land) but eventually decided to keep it on one network, probably the best network to have it on.

The president of the networks listed in the parentheses above, Kent Alterman, said this about the announcement:

A Show About Nothin’

Now I’m not sure exactly what he means by, “…we’ll finally get Seinfeld the recognition it truly deserves…” since it is regarded as one of the funniest shows, if not one of the best shows of all time. Heck, it didn’t even really gain that recognition till after its run on NBC. Even when it initially aired, it didn’t have the almost cult-like popularity that it has today.

It just goes to show that prime shows like this, shows that stand the test of time, will always be in demand due to their ability to tell stories that connect, even 20 plus years later.

Seinfeld was created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld. It premiered on NBC on July 5, 1985 as The Seinfeld Chronicles, but stuck to just Seinfeld after the pilot’s premiere. It ran for 9 seasons, with 180 episodes with the finale premiering on May 14th, 1998, and has run 3 rounds of syndication (when a show runs through its episodes once) since then and now it finds its way onto Comedy Central on October 9, 2021.
