During an event in Croatia, Sekiro, Bloodborne and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed he would like to work on narrative focused games like Red Dead Redemption 2.

At Reboot Develop, a boutique games industry event in Dubrovnik, Miyazaki said that he usually works on gameplay first, and then adds elements of the story to offer a more compelling experience.

“You’re playing with clay, and it slowly comes into focus,” Miyazaki explained.

He mentioned that he works on gameplay and levels first, and those are affecting the story he creates around them.

Miyazaki also said that one day he would like to work on more narrative focused games like Red Dead Redemption 2, which he namechecked, and that he needs to get better at communicating the story with his users since he noticed that many don’t understand the overall plot.

Interestingly, in the recent past, the boss of From Software also said he would like to work on live service and battle royale titles.

So, there’s so much he would like to work on, but of course, limited time and resources could prevent him from doing it.
