Healing is a vital mechanic in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. You need to utilize it to stand a chance against the tougher enemies, and when players make a simple mistake, they’re not going to lose a large chunk of their health in the middle of a boss fight because of this mistake. When you start the game, you only have access to one healing gourd. However, as time goes on you’re going to have the opportunity to drink more healing gourds. Here’s how you do it.

Sekiro’s Healing Gourd

Who To Talk To

After the prologue, you’re going to wake up in the sculptor’s workshop. You’re going to walk outside, and immediately to your right, you’re going to see a woman standing there. Her name is Emma, and she’s going to be the individual you speak to expand your Healing Gourd uses. You don’t need currency to expand your gourd uses, but you do need gourd seeds, which are difficult to find. For every gourd seed you locate, you increase your healing gourd uses by one.

Finding the Seeds

The most effective way to locate the gourd seeds is by defeating bosses. One of the first bosses, Samurai General Naomori, is going to have one on him. Beating him is no easy task. After you’ve taken him down, you can loot a gourd seed, which you can take back to Emma.

You can also find gourd seeds hidden in Ashina, or an NPC merchant may have one for sale.

You don’t have to do this immediately, and you can return to her at any time. Dying while holding the seed in your inventory does not get rid of it.

If you need to replenish your healing gourd, visit a Sculptor’s Idol to refill it. However, doing so also resets all of the enemies.
