Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Training Dummy

Finding Him

You’ll want to start this journey after you’ve failed the first mission, and you do have to fail the first mission to progress through the game. This start begins after you have received your prosthetic arm. After that, exit the home you’re in and proceed forward, walking up to the blue Sculptor’s Idol in the middle of the courtyard. Walk up to it, and then continue to the right. You’ll find a small pathway leading up to a small structure.

In front of the structure is a main. Speak to him a little bit to learn about his past, and he’ll inform you about how he wishes to fight you. After the brief battle, and you defeat him, you’ll watch him reposition himself back into his location. He’ll then explain how many have attempted to slay him, yet he cannot die. As such, he wishes to offer his body as a training dummy for you to practice your skills on throughout your journey. If you run across a new skill you’d like to practice; you can always return to him.

Training

After having defeated him in combat, all you need to do is return to him and ask if you’d like to continue additional training. From there, you’ll receive a dropdown list of available training sessions the two of you can participate in whenever you’d like. You can go through as many times as you, so if you ever find yourself taking a break from Sekiro, you can always use this as a refresher course rather than needing to fight low-level enemies to remember how to use a particular button combo.

Whenever you learn a new skill, return to him and try it out a couple of times. It’s a great way to ensure you’re understanding the new system, and you also have no risk of losing any points you have acquired on your journey. Take your time, because this game will brutally beat you into the ground if you do not take it seriously.
