Today Apple unveiled the trailer (seen below) for My Mind & Me, a documentary on Selena Gomez that will see her open up about her mental health. Alek Keshishian, who worked with the star before for the Hands to Myself music video and helmed the Madonna doc Truth or Dare, directed the film. It follows her rise to stardom with a “uniquely raw and intimate” peak into her life that “spans her six-year journey to a new light.”

The Selena Gomez Apple documentary is not the first time she has opened up about her mental health. In 2014, she went into treatment for lupus, and in 2020 revealed that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. For a cover story for Elle last year, the actress and singer talked about all of the obstacles she had overcome in recent years.

It was quite fitting to put out the trailer for My Mind & Me while she has gone on this journey for her physical and mental health as it marks World Mental Health Day, which is meant to support and promote education and awareness of mental illness.

Selena Gomez opens up further about mental health in new Apple documentary

The professional side of Selena Gomez, which the Apple documentary will explore, has been on a new rise. She received her first Emmy nomination for Only Murders in the Building, in which she stars with Martin Short and Steve Martin. While continuing to put out new music, she has also recently starred in Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania, Dolittle, and The Dead Don’t Die.

While undetermined if or how much will be explored in the Apple documentary, Selena Gomez has been known for her charitable donations. Her cooking series Selena + Chef raises money for various nonprofits. Rare Beauty, her makeup brand, has a charity attached, Rare Impact Fund, that focuses on mental health issues.
