There is a solace for “life and hometown” fans who’ve been waiting hopelessly for Senran Kagura 7EVEN. Today, Compile Heart and Tamsoft announced a Senran Kagura and Hyperdimension Neptunia crossover title, Senran Nin Nin Ninja Taisen Neptune: Shoujo-tachi no Kyouen. The game will launch in 2021 in Japan for PlayStation 4. Any plans for a Western release haven’t been announced yet.

Showcased in the Game Live Japan event live stream, Senran Nin Nin Ninja Taisen Neptune will feature a huge cast of characters from both franchises including Neptune (Purple Heart) and Asuka. Meanwhile, an original character named Yuuki will act as this game’s protagonist. Voiced by Miku Itou (Kokoro Tsurumaki, BanG Dream!; Yuriko Nanao, THE [email protected]: Million Live), she is described as a “sexy ninja who likes princesses.” Her character silhouette has been teased in the stream, but the actual design will be revealed at a later date.

As seen in the trailer below, the gameplay of Senran Nin Nin Ninja Taisen Neptune might consist of two different mechanics: visual novel-like conversational segments and fast-paced action-based missions. In battle, you will be able to bring two characters into your party which can be swapped on the fly. A minigame involving a hot spring will also be playable.

Here’s the overview of the game’s story, according to Gematsu:

The Neptunia series is still going strong since its debut on PS3 in 2010 and will be releasing a “re-remake” of the first game for PS5 this June. However the same can’t be said of Senran Kagura. The last mainline game, Estival Versus, was released in 2016. After that, the franchise basically went into life support by only releasing spin-offs. Citing restrictions on “creative freedom“, the original director Kenichiro Takaki even left the series back in 2019. While the announcement of Senran Nin Nin Ninja Taisen Neptune doesn’t particularly mean a revival is coming, but hopefully it can tide over fans hungry for another entry in the battle ninja series.
