Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Josh O’Connor, and Andrea Riseborough have joined Kate Winslet’s upcoming biopic, Lee. Ellen Kuras will be the director for the picture. The script was written by Liz Hannah (The Post, Mindhunter), which has been adapted from the book The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose. Winslet will produce and star in the biopic based around World War II correspondent Lee Miller. Rocket Science, CAA Media Finance, and UTA Independent Film Group will broker deals at the market. Finola Dwyer, Troy Lum, and Andrew Mason of Hopscotch Features are producing Lee along with Kate Winslet.
Andrea Riseborough will play Audrey Withers, the dynamic editor of British Vogue, and close friend of Miller. Withers was part of the decision-making to not publish Miller’s shocking Dachau photos. Cotillard will play Solange D’Ayen, the fashion director of French Vogue who was also a confidant of Miller’s going back to her fashion days. Jude Law will play Roland Penrose, the love of Miller’s life. Josh O’Connor will play Miller’s son, Anthony Penrose.
Lee Miller went from being a Vogue cover model and muse to other artists to being a war photographer. She documented the fighting on the allied front lines and brought to light the cruelty that Hitler’s Nazi Germany perpetrated on Jews in concentration camps.
Winslet: Actor and Producer
Kate Winslet is coming off another award win from starring in Mare of Easttown. She won a Primetime Emmy Award for Oustanding Lead Actress, for her role. She now has all her attention on the biopic Lee. Winslet previously worked with Ellen Kuras when she was the cinematographer for Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. This time around Kate Winslet will star in and produce the biopic, Lee. Ellen Kuras will be the director instead of the cinematographer.
