Fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels are in for a treat. Along with a brief teaser trailer, Netflix has announced that the Shadow and Bone adaptation is set to release next year as a series.

Shadow and Bone is a trilogy that takes place within Bardugo’s larger Grishaverse. On the show’s official site, Netflix has kept the description brief, “Sinister forces plot against a young soldier when she reveals a magical power that might unite her world.”

The show is set to star Jessie Mei Li  as Alina Starkov, the main character, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, and Ben Barnes who will portray The Darkling. Bardugo is also heavily involved in bringing her beloved novels to life.

Bardugo stated that the Netflix series will bring her popular Shadow and Bone trilogy and Six of Crows duology together in a way that fans, new and old, will enjoy. It seems as though the Netflix adaptation will show both timelines in their story:

Shadow and Bone is scheduled for release in April 2021. If you’d like to catch up on some reading before then, the trilogy is available now!
