This year’s combined issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump announced that the Shadow House manga will go on hiatus. This break is going to last until the magazine’s 39th issue, which releases on August 26. The reason for the hiatus is unknown.

The Shadow House manga’s existence is the cause of an anime release of the same name. Studio CloverWorks (Darling in the Franxxx, The Promise Neverland)  is behind the animation, and it aired from April to July of 2021. Somato, the original creator duo, were also involved in the writing and directing process.

Since its release, Shadow House has gained positive traction with the horror and psychological anime community. Many have described it as a slow burn horror, relating it to other titles such as Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji), which has similar themes of religion and colonization.

The Mystery of The Shadow House

Funimation streamed both the sub and dub as the anime as it aired in Japan. The story for Shadow House is described as follows:

The manga first launched in Weekly Young Jump in September of 2018. From there, Shueisha published the manga’s eighth book volume on June 18. As of now, Shadow House has not been renewed for season 2.

Looking at the viewership for Shadow House, the animation shows to have a 7.9 on MyAnimeList with around 15,000 reviews. With those kinds of numbers and positive reviews, a second season would be in the studio’s best interest. However, the manga authors have already said that changes were made because the anime series needed to be adjusted, which also hints towards a second season.
