Post-apocalyptic survival shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has a battle royale spin-off called Fear the Wolves, and it’s coming to Steam’s Early Access this month. Set in a dangerous, irradiated Chernobyl, 100 players will fight to remain the last one alive in a lifeless wasteland as the cult 2007 game enters the popular world of battle royales.

Developer Vostok Games has expanded upon the genre’s traditional formula with the addition of radiation, extraction, and weather mechanics to help this release stand out from the crowd. A decent-sized chunk of the Chernobyl map will be the only one available at launch, but it will be rife with army camps, ravaged towns, rivers, and other terrain that will feature a day and night cycle.

Other players won’t be the only thing Fear the Wolves fans will have to worry about. As its name implies, there are massive mutant wolves lurking throughout Chernobyl, as well as storms, radiation, and various other kinds of environmental hazards. The original game was heavily inspired by the Andrei Tarkovsky film Stalker, including the need to throw metal bolts in order to detect dangerous anomalies. How the 1979 Cold War tale will influence the multiplayer brawl will be seen with the game’s release.

There will also be a selection of vehicles as well as a Spectator Mode for the game’s Early Access, with more to come. Additional features planned by Vostok Games include voice chat, leaning, crawling, map updates, and an improved localization. These upgrades which are outlined on the game’s Steam page.

Fear the Wolves hits its first phase of Early Access on July 18.
