Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda has shared more information about the next project coming from genDesign during an interview with Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu.

According to Ueda, the game’s scale will rival with his previous titles, so don’t expect some kind of indie, smaller experience to come out of his studio. On top of that, it’s not a sequel to any of the aforementioned games.

“We’re in a stage of various trials. This stage we’re in, where we’re actually making our ideas to test if they’re interesting or not, is being supported by Kowloon Nights (a game fund), so we’re proceeding with prototyping,” he said.

“We’re working out the core parts first, and from there we’ll make it into a stable product. That’s our challenge this time (…) What we’re making now doesn’t feel like an indie game. We’re ultimately aiming for something on the scale of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian,” Ueda added.

“If larger-scale development becomes of interest to us, then I think we will significantly expand our development system and take it to a large-scale development team to make it a big game.”

“This will be a completely new title, not a sequel.”

Well, it’s nice to see Ueda’s next project is already underway and, while it could retain something from the same universe where The Last Guardian stands together with previous titles, it’s also good to note it’s a brand new IP and not a simple sequel.

Hopefully it takes less time in comparison with The Last Guardian…
