On your quest to defeat all 16 colossi in Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 you have to overcome every single one of them, and the 3rd is one of the first to really put up a challenge. This is where the puzzle to find the colossus’ weakness really takes shape and shows how difficult it can be. We’re here to help though, so here’s our guide on how to beat the 3rd colossus in Shadow of the Colossus on PS4.
The 3rd colossus is fairly iconic for Shadow of the Colossus fans. Standing tall above the platform you find him on, he wields a gigantic sword, which will be key to getting onto his back. You can jump onto the sword to reach his arm, but there’s an important first step before you can do that.
First you need to shatter the armor around his sword arm. In the middle of the platform is a stone dais that you’ll need the colossus to hit with his sword. Lure him away from it at the beginning then, get him to head back toward it, popping him with arrows the whole time. Eventually he’ll start his swing, so dodge out of the way and get ready. If he hits the platform the way you want there will be a short cutscene showing his armor breaking. Now you can really get to work.
Get him to swing again, this time onto any surface. Dodge the sword hit and climb up it to reach his arm. Be careful not to get shaken off, holding R2 to walk slowly if necessary. Once you reach the fur on his arm you can climb up, resting on the platforms if you need to regain some stamina (here’s how to increase your stamina overall). There’s two glowing weak points you need to hit, his head and stomach, so get to them in any order.
I’d recommend hitting the head first, so climb up his shoulder and back to reach it, then do the usual stuff. Once it’s done climb down the colossus’ back to his waste. Then walk around to his stomach where you’ll find the second and final weak spot.
