The recent patch for Pokemon Go hints that Shadow Pokémon and Team Rocket are coming to the game.

Serebii has reported the latest patch that has hit the Pokémon Go app on iOS and Android. As detailed by Serebii, the update fixed a couple of bugs in the game, as well as included some preparations for the upcoming Pokémon Go Fest in Dortmund.

However, there appears to be some data in the patch that seems to suggest Shadow Pokémon may be coming to the game. Shadow Pokémon is a mechanic that was present in Pokémon Colosseum and XD, 3D Pokémon games released on the GameCube in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

In Colosseum and XD, Shadow Pokémon are corrupted Pokémon that players can capture. The player can then purify them, un-corrupting them. Captured Shadow Pokémon will not be able to gain experience points until they are purified.

It’s unknown how the Shadow Pokémon mechanic will work in Pokemon Go, provided if the data that Serebii reported end up being incorporated in the game. It is very much possible that Shadow Pokémon mean something completely different in the Pokémon Go data.

Additionally, Serebii reports that the patch also includes text that seems to imply battling Team Rocket. Currently, the game does not have an evil organization to fight against. You have a professor and three team leaders.

Serebii clearly states that the information found in the patch are unclear at this moment. Until any more information is revealed, Pokémon Go will be celebrating its third anniversary tomorrow, offering players plenty of opportunities to capture special Pokémon.
