Shania Twain‘s throat surgery was a scary experience, even though it was to help her combat the Lyme disease she had contracted after an insect bite.

Since sharing her talent with the world, the Canadian-born singer Shania Twain has received more than two hundred awards, including five Grammys and five Academy of Country Music Awards. The “You’re Still the One” singer has not slowed down the brakes. She is still going strong, giving titillating performances even with younger artists.

Last year, she performed with Harry Styles on stage, and recently, she was on fire as she serenaded the audience at the People’s Choice Awards with her smash hits.

But behind this vivacious singer is a story embellished with fear. Following her feature in Instyle’s February cover story, the singer voiced her past worries. Shania Twain’s throat surgery was done about two decades ago, but she remembers the experience like it was yesterday.

Shania Twain’s Throat Surgery Left Her In Fear

“Come on Over” was one of her best-selling albums, and after its release, the singer scheduled a horseback ride, not knowing that it was going to change her life forever. During the ride, she got infected with Lyme after an insect bite, and it slowed her down. Doctors believed a vocal nerve had been damaged.

For more than ten years, she could not continue doing what she loved best. But in 2018, Shania Twain’s throat surgery became a success. Yet, the singer was afraid to use her voice. “After I had the surgery, I was petrified to make a sound. I didn’t know what was going to come out,” she told the magazine.

Thankfully, the fear did not last long; she rose to the occasion, finding the courage to relearn how to use her voice. What has she been up to? Well, a lot! Apart from stage performances, the Grammy winner is set to thrill fans with more pleasant tunes. Next month, she will release her fifth album titled “Queen of Me.”

Dubbed the Queen of country pop, she has learned to appreciate her art despite past troubles. Twain, who divorced her ex-husband after realizing he was seeing her best friend, claimed, “I’m just enjoying where I am.”
