Shazam! is one of DC’s more surprising Box Office movie hits. Departing from the darkness of its DCEU brethren, the family-friendly superhero flick exuded a lighter tone similar to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

And it is this success that has justified its upcoming sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods. So, if you’re a fan of Zachary Levi’s goofy superhero antics, rejoice! Because there’s even more good news – the movie starts shooting very soon. In an interview on the Carlos Watson Show, actress Meagan Good confirmed Shazam! 2 starts shooting this coming May. If shooting is indeed starting in three months, then this puts the movie on track for its release date of June 2, 2023. As with countless other movies and TV Shows, Shazam! 2‘s schedule previously fell victim to COVID-19. Here’s hoping the 2023 release date is its last one.

In Shazam!, Good played the adult superhero version of Faithe Herman’s character, Darla Dudley. Darla, alongside protagonist Billy Batson’s other orphaned siblings, turn into adult superheroes to take on the Seven Deadly Sins at the end of the film. Given that Darla now has this power, it’s likely she will serve a bigger role in the sequel, alongside the other children.

Meanwhile, Black Adam, a popular villain of Shazam!, is set to have his own DC solo film. The character is tied to Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson, while Jaume Collet-Serr is set to direct. The script underwent multiple rewrites but since COVID hit, the film is currently unscheduled despite a previously-set December 2021 release date. However, it is thought to start filming this Summer.
