Earlier this week (August 24), Olivia Wilde spoke up about Shia LaBeouf being fired from her upcoming thriller Don’t Worry Darling. For her, it was about his “combative energy” and “process” that conflicted with her “ethos” to create a “safe, trusting environment” for her crew and cast. Now, the Fury actor has come out to dispute her statement as he sent emails to Variety with his statement and emails he sent to the actor-turned-director over a “lack of rehearsal time” that led him to exit on his own terms.

Shia LaBeouf sent Olivia Wilde emails on August 24 and 25 about her interview. In the email Variety obtained, he wrote, “You and I both know the reasons for my exit. I quit your film because your actors and I couldn’t find time to rehearse.”

In the report, studio sources told Variety that Shia LaBeouf was fired. Another source of knowledge on the situation said that it was more neutral, with an agreement that his acting style did not work with the director’s style.

Shia LaBeouf disputes Olivia Wilde on his firing from Don’t Worry Darling

When he was cast, Shia LaBeouf would have been opposite Florence Pugh as her husband, Jack. Harry Styles replaced him for the part.

In text messages sent between Shia LaBeouf and Olivia Wilde, they met in Los Angeles on August 16, 2020, to discuss his exit from the film. Later that night, the director texted him to thank him for his “honesty” in coming forward about being unable to do the film. She also said how she was “honored” that he signed up in the first place. The Transformers actor then exited the project on August 17.

In the messages that Shia LaBeouf sent, Olivia Wilde allegedly made a video for him on August 19, 2020, where she said she was “not ready” to let go of him walking away from the project. She alluded that there was a problem between him and Pugh. In the video, she went on about how the two actors could “make peace.”

Olivia Wilde has not responded to what Shia LaBeouf said or the messages he shared with the outlet.

The film in question that Shia LaBeouf exited, Don’t Worry Darling, will release in theaters on September 23.
