The Nintendo Switch is almost upon us and that has led to plenty of interviews with many of the biggest names associated with the company. Shigeru Miyamoto is one of those people that has been making the rounds to discuss the Switch, which led to him giving some thoughts about how he feels about VR gaming right now.

TIME has been covering the upcoming Nintendo Switch quite a bit since its big reveal presentation last month and the latest was an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto about the Switch, but also some more general topics as well.

One of them was the topic of VR gaming, which they mention that Miyamoto said he was uneasy about whether or not VR was the best way for people to play, and whether he has changed his mind now that VR is more prevalent, in which he said:

“In terms of being together online in virtual reality, I think a lot of the problems have been solved or are starting to be solved. This is something that we’re looking into, too. But when I see people play virtual reality, it makes me worry, just as for example if a parent were to see their kid playing virtual reality, it would probably make them worry. Another issue and challenge that I think everybody faces is how to create an experience that’s both short enough while also fully fleshed out in virtual reality.”

Considering PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift all launched last year, the first wave of modern VR has definitely arrived, but there is no question it is very early. It definitely sounds like Miyamoto is warming up a bit to VR, but its was to understand the concerns he still has.

It is kind of disappointing that he only sees VR as more of a short experience though, as it would be quite an amazing experience to one day play a full Legend of Zelda game in VR. Nintendo doesn’t have VR in their short term future though, so there’s still time for that to be figured out.
