Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux has finally gotten a release date, and we can expect to see the game this May.
Luckily, that’s not much longer of a wait for MegaTen fans out there hanging on for their next fix. The upcoming MegaTen game isn’t a brand new entry either, but an update of 2009’s Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, which originally came to Nintendo DS.
Strange Journey Redux is an expanded port that follows a soldier from the United Nations who’s dispatched to investigate an anomaly known as the Schwarzwelt, which is essentially a dome of “dark energy” populated by demons. You’ve got to head inside to meet all the demons who would love to eat you for breakfast while getting to the bottom of the anomaly so you can get rid of it. Obviously.
This version of the game will feature a new character named Alex, who will change the base story in significant ways, with Atlus claiming she’ll play a “major role” in the story. She apparently isn’t a big fan of the protagonist, but as far as why that is, we haven’t been given an explanation yet. It’s obviously something that’ll need to be explained in the context of the game.
Strange Journey is a pretty polarizing gamealready, with a much more hardcore lilt to it than the Persona series, and it’s a much more difficult affair than casual fans of the games may be used to. It’s still very much worth checking out, however, when it launches May 15.
