Since the early days of Pokemon, trainers across the land have searched for rare Pokemon to show that they are number one. Originally, many trainers were excited to see the legendary birds, Mewtwo and Mew. Now, many trainers are disinterested in legendary Pokemon other than to trade once and be done; many trainers nowadays would rather by a second copy of the game than to interact with other trainers. So if you are trying to show off to the Pokemon community there is one sure-fire way to… Shinnies. This August’s Pokemon Community Day is bringing back on of the first shinies, Magikarp.
Shiny Pokemon was first released in generation 2 (Gold, Silver, and Crystal). Since then, many trainers have actively sought out Shiny Pokemon. On Nintendo consoles, Shiny Legendaries are often considered a valuable commodity. In fact, many trainers will often save their game right before the start of the encounter. For many, the Shiny Gyrados was the only shiny Pokemon they ever caught before Pokemon Go. Just like many of the Console Pokemon games, Pokemon Go allows players to find shiny adaptations of their favorite Pokemon.
Similar to Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Magikarp and Gyrados were the first two shiny Pokemon added to Pokemon Go. Since then, many have searched for a shiny Magikarp with minimal success. Thankfully, Niantic has announced that the next community day Pokemon is Magikarp; that’s right, on August 8th trainers around the world will have the opportunity to catch a ton of Magikarp with the possibility of getting a shiny one.
Event Specifics
On August 8th, trainers will have three hours to catch as many Magikarp as they possibly can. During the event, players will receive 3x the normal catch stardust. Each incense used will last for three hours. Any Gyrados evolved from an event Magikarp will learn the exclusive move Aqua tail.
During any given community day, it is easy to obtain at least one shiny Pokemon. Occasionally, trainers have gotten lucky and found shiny variations of other Pokemon during the event.
