The Forsaken Maiden is the second game after Square Enix’s new tabletop RPG: Voice of Cards. The very first Voice of Cards, The Isle Dragon Roars, was released in late 2021. But given how certain characters seem to be returning, do you need knowledge of the first game to enjoy The Forsaken Maiden?

You can play The Forsaken Maiden without playing The Isle Dragon Roars. After all, every Voice of Cards game may be set in the same universe on the same timeline, but its stories are independent. However, you will appreciate the story of The Forsaken Maiden more by finishing the first game. The lore is connected.

The Forsaken Maiden has introduced characters who were present in The Isle Dragon Roars, such as Vince. There’s even a character in The Forsaken Maiden named Phila, who was just a random no-name merchant in the first game. Certain organizations, such as the Onyx Despair, were only alluded to in The Isle Dragon Roars.

Every game tells part of a story of this lore-rich world inhabited by colorful characters, secret organizations, and historic kingdoms. You don’t need to play Voice of Cards in order, but you need to play all of them to get a richer narrative.
