What should you do with the game’s first major decision?

In the opening chapter of Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, Emem is forced to either take Journey to the Prince or tell Journey to run. This is the first major choice in the game, and it’s also a great example of how complicated conversations can become in Swansong if you’re trying to convince someone to do something or change their mind about a subject. Tensions are high in the opening chapter of Swansong because of the incident at the party, so should you take Journey to the Prince or tell her to run?

Should You Take Journey to the Prince in Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong?

This choice does not have any serious lasting consequences, so just do what you feel is right. If you choose to take Journey to the Prince, then she will come along without any resistance. There is no need to worry about Journey’s fate.

Immediately after making this choice, you will be introduced to Leysha, the game’s second playable protagonist, and she can find evidence that clears Journey’s name during her investigation. Just make sure to thoroughly explore the environment as Leysha before reporting to the Prince.

Should You Tell Journey to Run?

If you tell Journey to run, she won’t listen to you right off the bat. That’s a serious risk she would be taking, so you’ll have to win a Confrontation with her in order to convince her. Confrontations are multi-stage conversations where you can only miss a certain number of points.

Thankfully, this is an easy tutorial Confrontation and it’s hard to fail. Your decisions in the first two stages do not matter, and as long as you mention the Anarchs and Saule during the final stage, Journey will be convinced to run. Winning this Confrontation will give Emem some bonus stat boosts and XP, so it’s the best option if you’re looking to min-max. Just make sure to be careful with the Prince in any upcoming conversations since she won’t take too kindly to Emem going behind her back for this.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch version of the game is currently in development.
