Another streamer hops off the Twitch gravy train. Shroud has officially jumped ship to Mixer. Announced on his official Twitter account, his “intro” video can be seen here. Ninja had the biggest following on Twitch when he left, so where does Shroud fall? Before his move, he was the second biggest streamer with 6.5 million followers. He certainly isn’t as ingrained into mainstream culture, but he’s no slouch. It’s a testament to just how mainstream video games and streaming have become.

Mixer Takes Shroud, Gunning for Twitch

Mixer is gunning for Twitch. At one point it seemed like the streaming platform would simply fade into darkness slowly. That or simply sit as a lower-tier option, never offering up the competition. However, 2019 is the year of Mixer mixing things up (I had to, I’m sorry). First Ninja and now Shroud. Two of the top guys taken from Twitch’s ranks. Shroud is a heck of an addition. While Ninja has the Fortnite craze covered, Shroud is a former CS: GO pro. He currently plays games such as Apex Legends, Minecraft, and Rainbox Six.

How Does Twitch Respond?

By the time this article is published, his follower count will have already grown from 288,852 to whatever it is now. It doesn’t hurt that when going to Shroud’s page, a free subscription to it is being offered. He will also have already done his first stream on the platform. How’s Twitch taking the news? About as well as they did with Ninja. As of now, Shroud is no longer verified on Twitch. Shots fired. With two of Twitch’s most high profile streamers taken off the board, how do they respond? The competition Mixer is offering is likely to push Twitch to new heights.

They’ve recently started a beta service, watch parties, which is a long time coming. For now, Twitch has the upper hand with extended features and a larger fan base. Will this be enough though in the long run? Mixer is taking more and more in chunks, if Twitch isn’t careful, they could get lapped. Only time will tell how the streaming wars go. For now, we can just sit back and enjoy the show.
