SIGNALIS, the survival horror game coming from Humble Games and indie developer rose-engine, has announced that it’s releasing on October 27, 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch! You can wishlist the game today through Steam or the Humble Store as well as expect the game to hit Xbox Game Pass on release day. The news was announced during today’s Guerilla Collective showcase with a new trailer, which you can find below.

A Dark Secret Uncovered

SIGNALIS begins its journey like any good survival horror, with your character (Elster in this case) awakening from cryostasis in a world much darker than the one she remembers. With her wrecked vessel stranded on a cold planet, she must explore the horrors that lie within to uncover the planet’s secrets and, hopefully, make her escape. Best of all, she has a personal journey as a technician Replika, in search of her lost dreams. Taking inspiration from such horror greats as Stanley Kubrick, Hideaki Anno, and David Lynch, SIGNALIS is sure to bring upmost intensity and scares.

Developer rose-engine hasn’t forgotten about gameplay either. As shown in the above trailer, SIGNALIS brings its indie survival horror ideas to life using pixel art mixed with many modern rendering techniques. This includes fluid 3D animations, dynamic lighting and shadows (an absolute must in horror games if you ask me), and complex transparency alongside cinematic sci-fi storytelling. It’s almost all reminiscent of some of the older Resident Evil titles, though makes great use of how the genre has moved forward in the years since. That alone has me hooked, seeing as some of my favorite games these days are first-person shooters that do just that.

I’d love to hear your thoughts though. Will you take on the role of Elster and explore this desolate planet in SIGNALIS? What’s your favorite horror game in recent memory? Let me know!
