In August, it was reported that Selena Gomez would reboot Working Girl, and now Sigourney Weaver has spoken up about it. The star from the original 1988 film told The Hollywood Reporter how it was a “fantastic idea” and gave her full support for the film.

Not many details are known about the Working Girl reboot, but it is unlikely Sigourney Weaver would join the cast. The Alien star “wouldn’t force” her to be a part of the modern take of the film. She said that she could only think if she starred, she would play “the old person who runs the agency going by with a cane.”

Sigourney Weaver supports Selena Gomez Working Girl reboot

Sigourney Weaver supporting Selena Gomez for the Working Girl reboot makes for a nice gesture, although we don’t know what to expect from the film. The Only Murders in the Building star is set to produce the project, but it is uncertain if she will also star. Ilana Pena (Diary of a Future President) will pen the script. It is likely it will be released on Hulu.

The original film followed a secretary whose boss steals her idea, so she gets it back by pretending to have her boss’ job. The film starred Sigourney Weaver, Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, and Alex Baldwin. It was directed by Mike Nichols (The Graduate) and written by Kevin Wade (Blue Bloods). The Avatar and Alien star was nominated for her role. The film grossed $100 million with a total of six Oscar nominations. It won for best original song, Let the River Run, by Carly Simon.

Whether it is looking through the years since Working Girl or looking at what’s come up before the reboot, Sigourney Weaver and Selena Gomez have kept themselves busy. The former will star in the Avatar sequels, starting with this year’s The Way of Water. The latter will return for Only Murders in the Building for season 3 next year.
